Introducing... Lauren

Friday 3 August 2012

Hello I’m Lauren – a recent Literature graduate who is about to embark on her journey into the big wide world. I started Weight Watchers in January 2010 when I was in my first term of university, and
since then have lost a little over 6st – going from a size 22 to a 12-14. Since finishing my final exams in May I’ve had a hectic few months – birthday parties, end of term celebrations, a trip to New York and graduation. All of these have taken their toll on my weight loss and I’ve hit something of a plateau. Now the excitement of the last few weeks is over and I have just started my first real 'grown-up' job, so now is the time to get back into the good habits that I have allowed to slip by the wayside, and to shed the final few lbs to get me to my goal weight. I’m hoping that getting back into a regular daily routine and having regular access to a gym will help me to do this.

I’ve struggled with my weight since my early teens, and I’ve always been aware of being bigger than my peers. For the most part I didn’t let it bother me, and it wasn’t until I went to university in September 2009 that my size really became an issue. All of the girls I lived or studied with were slim and gorgeous, and I hated going on nights out with them as I knew I was the ‘fat friend’. Instead I’d hide in my room in halls and comfort eat, causing my size to balloon further. I was deeply unhappy. I had had some success with Weight Watchers in the past, so when I decided in January 2010 that enough was enough, I knew Weight Watchers was the plan for me. I envy those who have the will-power to go it alone, but I need the support and accountability that Weight Watchers brings.

Its been a slow process and I’ve had plenty of falls off the wagon – but what counts is the fact that I keep getting back on. Losing weight while being a student wasn’t easy, and at times I felt like giving it all up, but the flexibility of the plan helped me to stay on track while still enjoying student life. I graduated university as a different person to the one who started in 2009 – not only am I five dress
sizes smaller, I’m also happier, more relaxed and more confident in myself. I'm loving my new job in a publishing house in London, and I’m eagerly looking forward to what life has to throw at me.
I’m hoping that being a part of the WAMK team will help me to keep focussed and on-track with my
weight loss so that I can get to goal in the next few months – and stay there!
